Has anyone played this guitar? It's quite inexpensive... is it any good? Where is it made?

ganjavih wrote: I haven't played the specific Bangles model, but it is really just the Retro-H with a different bridge on it, and I have played the Retro-H. I was
visting a friend who is the lead guitarist of a punk band, and he mentioned to me that he bought one for his girlfriend. I laughed at him, and he told me
that they are actually pretty decent and brought it out for me to try. It was really quite playable. The action was good, the intonation was good, and it
stayed in tune. It has two mini-humbuckers, which give good tone. I have since seen many guys in indie and punk bands who play them, and when I ask why, they
invariably say it's for the tone. It is considered sort of the poor man's Gibson SG. I don't know where it is made, but since computer aided
design has become really common in guitar manfacturing, there are some great guitars coming from outside the US.

Brought to you by the words "price" and "gouging"! | #5 | ||

Hmm interesting. Does that mean we get to pay an extra 200 USD for an already-existing model with a minor tweak and some bangs logos,or am I missing something?
I can understand the need not to re-invent the wheel but that's a big jump in price for not too much different. I hope they're not taking the Micki err
mickey on us. ;) [sorry,I like cheesy puns] I'd have bought one save for the two minor problems of lack of cash or any musical talent, but as there is a DR
guitar re-seller in town I'll get round to looking at one no doubt!

The Retro-H's are only so inexpensive because they were discontinued, and they are trying to move old stock. They were originally higher in price, less
than the Bangles model, but more than $130. And anyway, don't you think it's worth the extra money for the cool Bangles logos?

Ahh gotcha. I guess I was being a little cynical,I didn't think of looking at it that way. The girls would never have a hand in anything sneakily underhand
like that,of course not. Yes,it's all about the cool logos, the extra cash is well worth it! Image is everything. lol. Must swell the pot for the recording
budget for the next record, after all. ;)

Dee Dee Datsun wrote: I may pick up one of the cheapo discontinued models sometime. It is a fun guitar to play, and has a decent tone. As for signatures, I am generally more
interested in guitars that are set up to the specific artists specs, rather than just having the artists name and logo on them. I'm more interested in
playability and being designed for a specific type of music. Most sigs seems to be geared more toward people who want to copy a particular artists style.

I totally agree, anything that gets more girls playing rock guitar is good! I'll try and find out what prices they're going for in the UK,just out of
interest. I wonder why Nancy doesn't market that guitar as a sig model though? It wouldn't do her any harm, after all,it's all publicity. Perhaps
she's not one to blow her own trumpet in that way?

Woah... Towanda did you say a light Les Paul?? Funny story... I'm 4'11 and 87 pounds and Les Pauls are my axe of choice, but after 5 minutes of playing
I'm in pain cuz they're so freaking heavy and I'm so little...

Dee Dee Datsun wrote: Yeah, she has never seemed to be concerned with having a signature guitar. She also promotes the Daisy Rocks, but it seems that her interests lie more in encouraging people, especially girls, to play. She plays both the Daisy Rock and the Les Paul, but the Les Paul seems to be her guitar of choice. She worked closely with Epiphone in designing the Les Paul Ultra. I saw a Heart show a few years ago in Chicago that was being filmed for PBS, and so it was a pretty small crowd. I had been hearing rumours about a signature guitar, so I asked her about it. She just laughed and said it wasn't something that she really wanted, that it just seemed like an ego boost, and a way to get the fans to buy a guitar. She was more interested in being a good musician and having that be what makes people want to play. |

towanda the avenger wrote: From what I've saw on YT,she's got that "good musician" thing more than nailed! I can see where she's coming from, more "lead by
example" than "lead by marketing and products",which is cooler [imo] but that's not to say what the bangles are doing,or indeed any other
artist with sig models,is intrinsically bad. It's just one of those things down to the artist's personal preferences.

yeah Dave, I agree completely....when the Daisy Rocks first came out, and I saw the ones shaped like flowers and butterflys, I was really opposed to the
concept of guitars made specifically for girls. I assumed they would be crap, and that they were using marketing to suck girls into wanting to have something
that would probably be unplayable. I changed my mind after playing one. Anything that anyone does to encourage girls, and anyone else for that matter, to
play guitar is fine in my book. If the Bangles get some Bangles fans to take up guitar because they have a signature guitar that has Bangles logos, and looks
cool, that's cool with me. If Nancy Wilson gets people to play guitar because she is such an excellent guitarist, and they want to emulate her, that's
cool too.

Although I like the metallic purple as in the new 2008 Siren model, metallic Black rocks too ... girls gotta have bling! I think the price is great and its a
signature guitar ta boot! Anybody interested check out their website. http://www.daisyrock.com/
The regional office is in Van Nuys, but Daisey Guitars have been in buisiness about 5 years and they are global. Somebody had a great idea...too bad they dont sell at COSTCO. I buy everything at that store.

Musicians Friend now has the Bangles Daisy Rock, $349.00 with free shipping and no tax in most states.
For anyone who wants this guitar, and can't find it in a store, Musicians Friend would be a good option for ordering it. I can not recommend them highly enough. I have ordered probably a dozen guitars from them, and they always arrive quickly, well packed, and in very good condition. They also always check the set-up before they ship, so the guitar is playable when you get it. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Daisy-Rock-Bangles-Signature-Model-Electric-Guitar?sku=481891 I just ordered a Retro-H from them this morning - $129.99 total and will arrive on tuesday. I can't wait to get it. I am going to paint it black, swap out the bridge, and add a pickguard. It will look quite like the Bangles model after that, of course without the lotus, but I might slap one of my old, 4 circles body-art stickers on it. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Daisy-Rock-Stardust-RetroH-Electric-Guitar?sku=514886 |
