I've been a Bangles fans since the 80's and I visit this board, though I rarely post. I've been thinking lately that with Michael's departure, the band being reduced to playing the "80's nostalgia circuit", the snail'space approach to releasing a new album, maybe the Bangles should just call it a day? I know this is a provocative thought, and a sad one for Bangle fans, but isn't it better to just let it go?
I mean, I don't know how the band can be taken seriously today without a permanent bass player. Then there is the indignity (my opinion) of being lumped in with other 80's bands in the nostalgia circuit, as if the girls were irrelevant in the 2000's (I dont think so -- they're actually one of the great all-female bands around today). They don't appear too excited about making a new album to secure their legacy. I really hate to see them reduced to the nostalgia circuit, that's what bugs me the most. They're being seen as something "of the past" without relevance today. Without a new album, they are irrelevant today; with Michael gone, something has died, one fourth of the creative input is gone.
Sue still has the potential to be a successful solo artist -- she has a unique voice and is a gifted songwriter. Vicki and Debbie can work with other bands that might make them more current, rather than singing WLAE, with the Bangles for the upteenth time. Vicki, especially, has shown how talented she is with her Continental Drifters work. What to do you think -- isn't it better to bow out gracefully now and have them work on solo projects that could really emphasize their innate talents, instead of having then play the same ol' songs with Kajagoogoo? :) Just a thought...
